Fashion for the Real World
You won't see any filters, props, or artificial lighting. Just clothes. Clothes that you can feel good about wearing every day.
Wedding season is quickly approaching!! That means it's time to buy a bunch of dresses! Whether you want to wear one dress throughout all your weddings this season (which I have done if the guests have not overlapped from wedding to wedding), or you want to expand your wedding wardrobe, this dress is a perfect option.
For some reason I typically find myself in black or dark-colored dresses for weddings, although I'm still on the lookout for dresses with more color. In any case, black is always a safe option and is definitely one of my "go-to's." I really liked this dress because, personally, I cannot wear a strapless or even spaghetti-strap-type dress to weddings. I love to dance, and if I have to keep tugging and hiking up my dress, it really detracts from my ability to bust a move. I also liked the bottom- not too poofy or wide, but not completely tight-fitting. It's definitely a dress that's fun to twirl in (yes, I'm five years old). See link below for purchasing information.

Another top I absolutely love! Of course we all know that floral prints seem to be the rage this season. When walking around Macy's everything was flowers, flowers, flowers. This top was particularly unique, since it has a chiffon, see-through on top, with a mock turtleneck.
Although most of the tops I saw are more a "flowy" style, this one is a little more structured, and provides a great contrast to some of my other spring tops. I will be wearing this under a white blazer to work, and I'm on the lookout for a blush pink blazer, since that would be absolutely adorable over this top. This outfit would easily transition from day to evening. Per usual, I'm wearing my favorite Target jeans, which you can find here. See below for purchasing information. Taking over the dressing room at Macy's once again for this overhaul of my spring wardrobe!
Does anyone else feel like shopping is a complete workout? (or is that just my wishful thinking?) I always find myself making laps around these huge department stores, with armfuls of clothes- searching for outfits, then searching for a dressing room, then sweating taking the clothes on and off, then putting everything back on hangers....yes. The "shopping workout" should definitely be a thing. I was so excited when I found this white top, since this is going to be a staple for both my work and social wardrobe. I love the white color- it is so fresh for spring. The top has a beautiful lace design, which makes it really feminine and pretty. I usually don't like this type of "A-line" top because it makes my hips look huge, but I appreciated that this one "flared" a little lower, and was much more flattering than other tops I've tried that are this style. I like this top and outfit because it would be perfect for work with a blazer over it, and could transition very easily to evening or weekend by just wearing it alone. You could also wear the top with black dress crop pants to dress it up even more. The jeans are, of course, my "go-to" Target faves. See link below for purchasing information. What a great top for St. Patrick's Day! Although it's difficult to tell in the picture, this top is actually very green. I love the style of this top- it is so different from anything else I own. The tie down the front gives it a "colonial" feel, and provides some great detailing.
I see now when looking at the Kohl's website that this top should be/can be an "off the shoulder" top. Since I don't really think it's the time of year to bear shoulders, I'm going to wear it like this until it gets warmer. What a great way to transition from "day wear" to "evening or going out wear"- just dropping the shoulders. With jeans or black pants, this is a great outfit that I really enjoy wearing to work, or out on the town. Click on items below for purchasing information. One of my favorite tops. Ever.
When I saw this on the rack, I have to admit- I was feeling a little "meh" about it. Sometimes these shapeless tops can just be unflattering and too loosey-goosey. I decided to give it a shot, because, well, I'm adventurous like that. Now looking at these pictures, I like this top even more than I did when I tried it on. Of course I talked myself out of the purchase, and now the top is out of stock. Great. Note to self: If top looks remotely good and I may look back at the pictures and have regrets, just buy it. I don't know what I was thinking! This is such a perfect blouse for springtime and now I'll just have to keep staring longingly at the pictures. I'm wearing my usual "go to" jeans from Target - the Mossimo skinny jeans. These are pretty much the only jeans I wear. See the links below for additional purchasing info!
If this outfit doesn't say spring, I don't know what does. Although it's still pretty chilly here in the Midwest, that doesn't mean I could pass up this outfit.
I love the floral paired with the denim, and I have to admit, I can't really take credit for the combination. Once again I dismantled a display at Old Navy, and I love the look of these together. I may have to wait a little to wear the outfit until it gets slightly warmer, but it doesn't mean that i can't get prepared in the meantime :) This dress is very comfortable - it is made out of a t-shirt material. Better yet, it's on sale now for $18 (from $26)! Finally, these open-toed boots are all the rage now for spring. They really bridge that gap between the boots and sandals seasons. These from Old Navy are very affordable and comfortable. I do have to say, though, it is difficult to try on shoes with outfits when the shoes are still tied together. Luckily I didn't trip myself. I'm always on the lookout for a "comfortable blazer." As mentioned in a previous post, I find most blazers sweaty and stiff, and most require dry cleaning (which means I will probably not wash it unless I absolutely have to....). This blazer, on the other hand, has the cute stripes, and is machine washable! It has the flexibility so you feel like you can move, and it is breathable to wear even on those warmer days. I find these pants extremely comfy too. They aren't too fancy, or make you feel too "dressed up," but are professional enough that you can wear them to business casual type of events. Finally, I know you can't see my shoes in the picture (one of the difficulties of fitting room pictures), but I was a little "out there" with the shoes. I am wearing bright pink flats, which I loved with this outfit to add a real pop of color. If you can't tell, I'm all about the "comfort and style" type of looks. Anyone who has worn something extremely uncomfortable throughout an entire work day can attest to the fact that those days can be long and miserable. This outfit, however, I will be wearing on numerous occasions, regardless of the season. |
